PLANT SPECIES
The Coates Bluff Nature Trail is dense with diverse plant species. As you experience the trail, you'll notice some old-growth trees as well as younger, understory trees. Stay tuned to learn more about the flora and fauna of the trail! If you'd like to help us identify and catalog any species, see our community science plant identification project. At the iNaturalist link to our project we started in 2022, you can see or make your own identifications of plant or animal species on the trail. A huge thanks to local naturalist John Michael Kelly for identifying many species and helping us set up the project.
Below you will find some highlighted trees and flowering plants that you should keep your eye out for while hiking! And for the next 5 years we'll be working with Caddo Magnet High School students on the Coates Bluff Nature Trail Invasive Species Management Plan.
